Who are we?
Queerlit is an online platform for LGBTQ+ authors and creators to share LGBTQ+ fiction, comics, and other stories, launching in early 2017—we are now accepting submissions!
What will we provide readers?
Simple—a place to find LGBTQ+ authors writing stories that matter to them. We believe that everyone should be able to see people like themselves reflected in their literature, and that LGBTQ+ identities are often frustratingly absent in mainstream media—especially when those identities are intersected with other minority identities. We aim to create a space where queer readers starving for queer content can come to read stories created by, for and about people like themselves.
What will we provide authors?
We also aim to give LGBTQ+ authors (or artists) the chance to write and share those stories. New stories will be posted here every week, and we’ll provide our authors with:
- A readership: We’re starting from scratch, but determined to grow our audience through advertising and social media. We’ll support your piece on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook, as well as in other ways here at queerlit.co itself.
- Compensation: We believe that the written word has value, and we believe in compensating our authors. Although we can’t afford to make you as wealthy as we’d like, we’ll do our best to give you something. We currently offer $50 USD for pieces of 2,000 to 8,000 words, and we’re already looking for ways to improve our funding and pay our authors more. And of course you’re also welcome to use your author bio to link to your author website, store, donations page, or similar.
- Opportunities for growth: Once Queerlit is up and running, we want to explore publishing our authors in other formats. We want to grow, and we want our contributors to grow with us.
We are currently accepting submissions for publishing when we launch in early 2017. If you’re interested in submitting, please see our guidelines.
